On 19 and 20 July 2006 Air Chief Marshal Sir Glenn Torpy, the Chief of the Air Staff, held his biennial Air Power Conference at Hendon, London.
Dr Joel Hayward, Head of Air Power Studies, KCL at the RAFC, was among the twelve British and international speakers. Other speakers included General T. Michael "Buzz" Moseley, Chief of Staff, USAF, and eminent American air power analyst, Dr Phillip S Meilinger.
The conveners had asked Dr Hayward and Mr Sebastian Cox, the RAF Historian, to provide historical case studies of "agile air forces". Dr Hayward and Mr Cox analysed the great air power protagonists of WWII: the Luftwaffe and the RAF.
